does this mean we wont see an ipod update until september?

i believe the last two ipod updates came right after this promo ended and all the old ipods were gone...

or is it possible we see an update next week at WDC and a revision in sept/oct?

any thoughts?

I don't know if anyone has commented on this yet, but the Canada store says "University Students" instead of "College" in the promo graphic. I find this interesting, because usually companies assume College has the same connotation as University north of the 49, so Apple has obviously done it's homework. Nice.

ipod rebate

Anyone know if you can still receive the rebate if the computer was purchased and given to you as a gift?

I just noticed that as well - very nice, Apple. College and University up here definitely mean two different things.

The machines are expensive...but there's a lot of new tech in them. A pretty stellar update from Apple, I must say. So, any rumors on the NEXT mbp update?

THe price is actually really pretty competitive. The closest similarly spec'd machine I can think of would be the Asus G1S. That machine has a 2.2GHz C2D, 15.4" 1680x1050 non-LED backlit screen, 2GB of RAM, 160GB HD and 256MB 8600M GT. It costs $2000. It's also very thick and weighs almost 7 pounds.

The high-end MBP has a 2.4GHz C2D, 1440x900 LED-backlit 15.4" screen, 2GB of RAM, 160GB HD and 256MB 8600M GT. And costs $2499. But it's also only 1" thick and weighs only 5.4 pounds.

I would argue that the LED-backlit screen and almost 2 pounds lighter weight and 1" thickness is well worth the $500 difference.

So just in a price comparison, I think what Apple is offering is pretty damned reasonable........ we haven't yet seen Asus's thinner/lighter notebooks, but they should probably be closer in price to what Apple is offering for similar specs.

I know I'm very happy with the update. So happy I ordered one directly. Now the worse part starts...the waiting.
The nice part; more MBP for less money. I was hoping for Santa Rosa 2.4Ghz and a 160Gb and of course a LED display.

Help

Hey folks,

My brand new MBP is kernal panicking, even after trying to erase/install the system. Please help me out, my full post is in the mac hardware section under the macbook pro header.

thanks

Wow, KP already? That ain't cool.

Every now and then that can happen; I think someone else had kernel panics with their new machine. Last I recall, from checking the logs it was something with the Airport hardware.

Best thing to do might be to return it and get a replacement, rather than hassling to try and identify what the problem is.
