Backing up a Parallels Virtual Machine

I've been looking for information on backing up a Parallels Virtual Machine. From what I can tell, you use Parallels "snapshot" functionality, which creates a Snapshots folder. From that point, if I back up the contents of that folder, are all of my documents that reside on my VM backed up?
