Hello. I decided to make a backup of my documents pictures etc to an external drive.Found a method on line it was on the apple help.It was a drag and drop method from user to external drive.

I followed the instructions to my user folder and there was my picture my music my movies my download folders, But there is no Document folder there. Is that correct or have I done something stupid?.

Any help Please.
Many thanks David

In a Mac User's folder the folders are called "Music", "Movies", "Downloads" etc. and not "My Music", "My Movies" and so on. Those are Windows User folder names. Where are you?

You are correct Movies Music Downloads Etc Sorry that I confused the question But there are no Documents there?
I go to Finder Select my name on the left column then as above no Documents.
Thanks. David
[doublepost=1517586182][/doublepost]Sorry there is another folder Called Public.

Sorry for that as I failed to find an edit for my last reply.

If you did drag it somewhere you just have to find it and drag it back.
BrianBaughn is right, I think.

In situations like this the easiest way to find the folder that has strayed is to remember the name of some file -- ideally, an unusual name -- that you know is in the Documents folder, and then use Finder's search function to look for it. When it finds it, you should also be able to learn the folder that the Documents folder has ended up in.

Okay done that Whats next ?

That showed it in iCloud

Sorry I'm confused I'm new to this MacBook have come from windows pc.
Thanks.

Good Morning to all.
Many thanks for your assistance yesterday But still not found a solution.
I have only had this MacBook Air for a month during that I have done one or two simple mistakes but overcome them with help from here.
Now this is really confused me, What if I reset this MacBook back to new as I he'd it in January.Would that solve the issues then I could start all over again and not make any mistakes that I did last month. If thats a Yes what would be the best way and simplest way to reset back to new.
many Thanks. David.

OP:

Is your external drive large enough to hold the entire contents of the internal drive?
If so, I'd suggest you try downloading either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper.
Both are FREE to download and try for 30 days.

Both will create a fully-bootable clone of your internal drive.
This could serve you better "in a moment of extreme need" than anything else.

Both are trivially easy to use.

Thanks for your input.
If I could find a way to get the document folder into the my user folder, it Would save a lot of hassle.
Thanks. David.

Hi, Regarding the above issue that I got with Documents folder not showing in user.
I got in touch with Apple help and the reply I had was.....

AppleCare representative will walk you through the procedure to move files to your Mac if you wish.

By default Documents are stored in iCloud Drive.

Many thanks to all.David.
