If the drive fails or gets stolen the backup also fails or gets stolen. Unless you often delete files you need its pointless. Best thing to do is use an external drive.

Why would you want to do this, since one of the primary reasons for a backup is in the event the primary (internal) HD fails? If it fails, you would lose both your drive and the backup. Not the best solution.
