I have about 12GB of photos in my iPhoto (09) library. I've tried to use Backup (from the old .mac) to backup the photos to mobileme, but it always fails.

Does anyone know a way to backup my photos to MobileMe? I know I could select all the photos, export them to a folder, zip up, and then upload the zip file, but it seems like it should be easier than that.

    TIA,

    Charlie

Ugh, I recently tried using the old Backup software, which doesn't seem to work anymore, really. I just wanted files in the Pictures folder of the Finder to be synced with the Pictures folder of my iDisk, etc etc, but Backup created new folders for everything. :(

I can think of a few ways that you can kind of do this, that you're probably already aware of, but oh well - I'll just say them anyways! I have a couple of "Shared" albums in the sidebar of iPhoto that automatically sync with MobileMe, where I drag-and-drop photos that I want to have accessible online. I don't do this with all my pictures- usually just the ones I want to share!

For backup, I chose to have a local copy of my iDisk on my computer, which syncs automatically with my online iDisk. For backing up my iPhoto pictures, I choose the iPhoto library in the Finder (under the Pictures folder) and then copy it into my iDisk. I haven't found a way to do this automatically, so I have to remember to do it every week or so. It's annoying and I wish they'd just give us automatic backups of certain files to our iDisks, that would make it so much easier!

12 GB to iDisk? You'll be posting here next year wondering why the backup hasn't completed....

Thanks for the ideas - in fact I hadn't thought about putting the pictures in a shared folder and syncing that.

I do realize the uploads will take a little while, but I can do it in stages, perhaps a hundred photos at a time or something. I'm not in a rush. Seems to me no matter what online backup system I use, that much data is going to take some time.

Since MobileMe is available thru Amazon for $69/yr - at least that's what I paid last time - I'll think I'll stick with it and use it for my online backup and the other niceties such as the galleries and mail etc.

BTW, Backup still works OK with MobileMe when I upload other [smaller] documents such as office, quicken, etc. I also use it with an external hard drive, I have it set to back up everything once a week, I got annoyed with Time Machine backing everything up all the time and eating my hard drive space.

7Mbps. I find iDisk extremely slow. And what's more strange is that the Desktop iDisk is even slower than going through the MobileMe web interface.
