will a time machine back up on my macbook retina save random things like my firefox bookmarks and all the files and folders i have in virtualbox .

inside of my virtualbox environment where i run windows i have heaps of folders and files. do i need to back those up separately?

basically will a time machine back up give me a mirror image of my computer exactly the way it is from top to bottom?

TM will backup almost everything in order to restore your Mac, including your entire Home directory*, which contains those bookmarks and the entire VirtualBox virtual machine (which includes those folders in Windows - and if the VM is stored inside your Home directory).
It will not be a 1:1 copy though, it will not be bootable like when using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper!.
