Backing up OSX with linux, Protected folders? how?

Hello,

I have a crashed ibook here and i am trying to safe all the files on an external USB disk with a Linux Ubuntu live CD.

I can mount both the disks, the NTFS USB disk and the HFS mac disk.

I can copy files in between, the only problem is that i can not copy the user and home folders because "i am not the owner"

Is there a way around for this? i already tried it with sudo commands, and in the GUI i cannot change any thing on the maps for ownership or passwords.

You can copy the files as root, or use the superuser account to chown them to your normal user account.
