The title might not be accurate.
I'm referring to when backing up with CCC, SD, etc. etc, to an external drive. The ext drive is named other than the internal's name.. If you have them both drives on at the same time and try to update the internal drive version, an error occurs because you have 2 copies of the app.
Ho do you handle this?

Give your CCC backup clone a similar, but slightly different name.

Example:
I keep a partition for my important files, named "Main".
For my CCC backup, I have it named "Main B/U".

Easy to distinguish which is which, never a problem accessing files or apps...

DON'T DO THAT!

Don't have your backup drive mounted when you do any update to the main drive's OS or to any app. You want to keep your backup safe from any alteration during such operations.
