Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
I have an interesting one, I need to wipe my 9.7” iPad Pro and reinstall iOS 11 as a new device as it’s not running very well..

But I have a fair few internet shortcuts in a folder on the desktop, how on earth do I back these up? I can’t see anyway to email them or anything else?

Has anyone got any ideas?

Do you mean internet shortcut as an icon on the Home screen? I would think these are included with the normal IOS backup and restore process.

You can reset and do a fresh IOS restore of your iPad as a new device, followed by restore of your last backup. If there were any glitches with IOS, that should resolve it as IOS is reinstalled. Unless you suspect your apps were causing issues.

Think you may want to just bookmark them, then manually add them back to your home screen after restoring your iPad. Don’t kill too many brain cells trying to engineer a solution.

Actually it’s good to know how to do this properly if you want to keep Home screen shortcuts and resolve possible IOS issues. Brain cells are there for a purpose, and it’s not hard.

Thanks for that :)

The apps wold reinstall anyway and they are all legit ones, games bank etc.

How do you restore the backup after installing iOS? Is it from the iCloud option?

I did think about trying this, may take a look at it too. In Safari will it just automatically copy the bookmarks back in?

If I get the chance I’ll see if I can do it this weekend, I’ll try and update iOS on it tonight and then hopefully have a backup in iCloud if the latest iOS version. It’s currwntly on the one before yesterday’s release.

Ok, good your apps and data are ok. Connect the iPad to iTunes and do a backup. Then restore the iPad as if a new device while still connected to iTunes. Then (still connected to iTunes) restore from the backup just taken.

As mentioned above, making these shortcuts in Safari might be a good idea.

So I just added them as bookmarks in the end, did a full reset on the iPad, iOS is still glitchy I think. I think iOS 11 is the worst release ever. At least the keyboard is working better now as before that lagged too!

lol If you don't know how to manage your information, you will feel like that. The only problem I see is that the shortcuts on the lock screen don't go away like before. Everything else is smooth and improved.

With the A9X chip, the processor in the 9.7 Pro should be plenty fast for IOS 11. Something else must be going on there. Resetting and reinstalling IOS 11 is exactly what I would have done too if it started to feel sluggish (assuming that’s what you mean by not running very well). Should be solveable.
[doublepost=1517099247][/doublepost]Maybe take it in to an Apple Store and have them take a look. They’ve got diagnostic tools to check out and identify any issues. It‘s usually no charge. I’ve done that as well, and they always solve the problem.

iOS 11 is definitely slowing down my 9.7" iPad Pro as well. In 2016, I was able to load a 45-page script in google docs, refer to it on stage, and make edits to it in real-time and the whole process was as smooth as butter.

But something changed with iOS 11. I was asked to reprise my role as emcee again last year, and the same document was barely running on my iPad. Forget about editing - the entire experience was so slow and laggy, I just plain gave up. It could be google docs acting up on their end, but in the end, it was a glorified document viewer.

Battery life is also noticeably shorter, but that could also be it being almost 2 years old at this point (and I do use my iPad pretty heavily at work). Everything else still works as it did, and maybe I am being a little oversensitive here, but everything just seems to take a tad longer to resolve.

Maybe it's the 2gb ram beginning to show its age, but I shudder to think how it will react to iOS 12. iOS 11.2.5 seems to have made it a little smoother though.

As per the post above, it’s ios 11, you feel it as being a tad slower and get the odd glitches. No doubt the new iPads run fast as, just like the new ones this year will.
I’ll have to do a reinstall on my Apple Watch too at some point, it seems to me that my Apple Watch and iOS devices with the latest firmware are a bit slower and glitch now and then, not impressed with the QC under Cooks watch I have to say.. and I’m certainly not the only one who’s noticed this.
Apple devices may look nice but they only really perform as well as the software does.
