Just wondering if this is allowed or not and whether it can be done using say, Disk Utility?

I have a new MacBook Pro and I'm typically in one of two places with it; two places I have a room and a bed and spend any amount of time I mean. I'd like to copy my restore disks so that I can leave a copy in one location and the originals where I spend the most time; just so that I've got the ability to reinstall should I need or want to wherever I am.

I do tend to worry unduly about things, but I'd hate to be stuck at one location and need to reinstall without the means to do it. Similarly I'd hate to lose or damage my disks in transit.

My mum just inherited my old Windows laptop and since I had restore discs both at my folks' and my own place it meant I could set it all up in a night for her as an example :)

Why not make your own? By doing this, they will have the latest patches and programs already there and will save you the time from starting from scratch.

Being a recent switcher I don't have a clue where to start with that in OS X - any pointers?
