Backing up two Macs - consolidate first?

Just wondering how others back up two macs. I have an iMac and a MBP.
The MBP is primary machine for graphic design and web files with the iMac holding administration files.
Is it better to connect a HD to the iMac and archive final files over from my MBP or backup each machine separately?
 
Get a NAS like This one and have all your important Macs to backup to it's Time Capsule sever and back all the Macs to that NAS.

Also you could get cloning software like Carbon Copy Cloner and clone all the Macs, peripherally to a NAS.
