FWIW, mine looked kind of bad out of the box with a black screen but 4 months later the backlight bleed is gone. I have the floating apple logo with black background as a screen saver and I can't see any backlight bleed when I walk into the room with the lights off.

Totally unrelated to the subject.

But for a modern display (like LCD) you shouldn't have a screensaver instead of simply shutting down the display. It just use the display for nothing really.

I want a dark screen in the room without putting the Mac to sleep. I know it's not really "saving" anything.

Me too. Hot corner (in Mission Control) to turn the display off. Coupled with the screen set to turn off after 15 minutes anyway = win.

My method seems to work just fine for me. Black screensaver in 15 minutes, sleep in 2 hours. Maybe my screen being on for longer periods of time helped make the yellow corners fade away. Triggering something by accident seems like an inconvenience. This works just fine.
