this is my first time posting,so my bad if i do anything wrong.
My backlight doesn't work when i tilt the screen less than 90 degrees. is there anything i can do besides take it to the apple store? I'd rather my dad didn't find out

Hit up www.ifixit.com for a disassembly guide.

Since it's angle dependent, it sounds like either a loose connection or possibly a cracked ribbon cable for the backlight inverter. If you're unsure if the issue is the backlight, or just the screen in general, there may also a separate cable for the video signal (not sure, haven't looked).

Why are you afraid of your dad finding out? Those ribbons are poorly placed and often have poor slack & poor construction. You did nothing wrong.

Take it to the apple store.

buy an inverter with the cable. just in case. it's not too hard to replace it. it took me about 20 minutes to take out and 5 min to put in...
and everything took about 45-50 min.

just be patient
