Subject says it all. I have the Penryn MBP. I just got it about a month ago new off amazon. The keyboard does not light up in the dark or in low light. It did when I first got it, but now it suddenly does not.

Any suggestions to make sure it's not something I can fix manually?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried resetting the PRAM? To do this, hold down Command-Option-P-R on boot up and wait until you hear the "chime" twice.

This may sound like a stupid suggestion, but it never hurts to point out the obvious. Have you played around with the f5 and f6 keys at all?

Try this program (official endorsed by The Wizard of Woz himself)

Lab Tick

Its basically software control for the backlight. If you can use this proggy to manipulate the lighting it may be an ambient light sensor issue. If you can't then your LED's may be out.

Problem solved.

Hey Everyone.

I'm a moron. I was indeed pushing F5 and F6, not realizing what they did. Problem solved. Thanks for the answers!

If some of us haven't done the same thing, we wouldn't be able to tell you about it, right? 😱 Don't worry, did the same thing myself, and looked like a schmuck calling applecare.
