I've just updated my fully working 13" MBP (Mid-2009) from PB3 to PB4, and it's completely knackered the backlit keyboard. It's not showing up in System Prefs under Keyboard at all. Display brightness and the actual F5/F6 function keys still work though.

SMU and PRAM reset hasn't fixed it.

Anybody else with this issue?

Does not show in my system Pref either, but I use the keyboard brightness keys to adjust it, and that still works

Not working in mine either w/ both PB4 and PB5. Mid 2009 MBP here also. Worked fine in Mavericks.
[RESOLVED]

Had to uncheck adjust keyboard brightness in low light and now it works fine.

The way I read them, I think the other two people in this thread were saying that the checkbox you mentioned doesn't even show up in their Keyboard System Preferences panel. It's as if OS X does not recognize that their Mac has a backlit keyboard.

Works fine here on both PB4 and PB5, but I have 2012 rMBP.
