"With the release of new models later this month, ..."

"... once the new Airs make their debut sometime during the week of July 21st"

we decided to completely ignore these statements? MR just posted a "maybe this week" rumor.

Thats not as bad as how i felt when i got my late 09' model imac last year and the refresh happened one week later. Now i know to keep a eye out for refreshes.

Nooooooooo!

I just bought a new MBA a few weeks ago and wouldn't care if the specs were updated ... but a back-lit keyboard ... DAMN.

Can't really return it either :(

Ok, so it was last year, and no matter what anyone says now nothing can be changed about what happened, but, don't they have a policy of like 14 days where you can take it back or get credit or something if a refresh like that happens...?

If you wanted backlighting that much, why did you buy the Air in the first place? You could either have waited or bought a MB Pro. It's still as good as when you bought it.
so they could bring it back as a new feature :D
Yeah - and perhaps sell a few extra units of the new MB Pro 13" in the meantime, since it does have backlit keyboard yet still the resolution sucks for a non-upgradeable 13-inch-display on a Pro-device. It's all about marketing.

Close but... I work during the day, however sometimes my work runs into the evening, so... (wait for it)...I turn on a light.

But I might like the feature if the mood struck to work in bed. Either there are a lot of people who work in the dark or want a cool glowing keyboard.

What are the other uses of a back lit keyboard?

This is great if true! Now, do you think we'll also get 4gb standard especially considering Lion seems to be more memory hungry?

I want a cool glowing keyboard.

So what's going to happen to the MacBook Pros ?
Will they get the same Axe like shape as the Airs?

I think that's pretty much a given...

1. The Air tagline is "The next generation of Macbooks"
http://www.apple.com/macbookair/

2. Apple will 99% drop the superdrive in the next MBP revision (especially since Lion will be distributed via the MAS only.

3. With the removal of the superdrive, the shape lends itself to being more like a wedge, a la macbook air.

So would I. Now how about a color spectrum led? One that you can change the color on? So the kb glows in the color you want!

Now seriously, that would be neat!

This is going to tempt a lot of the ppl who said they probably won't buy one because of theHD3000 graphics

I've not seen confirmation of the HD3000 graphics except as a component of the Sandy Bridge SOC. Could they not also include a discrete GPU as well? The HD3000 is my last real concern pending release of actual specs.

One of the main reasons for me not buying the 2010 MBA over the 2010 MBP was the backlit keyboard. Now that I decided I would overcome not having a backlit keyboard I might still get it, I love it ;).

Yay for backlit! Having the current Air, I definitely miss it. This should be a mandatory feature for all Apple's notebooks going forward.

I don't 'use' the backlit on my keyboard either.... I only miss when i'm on a laptop without one!

Together with the glass trackpad, it's one of the things that make me pay the premium price.

Or 'With the removal of the superdrive, the current shape lends itself to contain a HUGE battery' <- PREFERRED

...and better GPUs... there are so many things that are more important than a quarter of a centimeter thinner case.

Agreed, but the superdrive "bulk" is fairly significant, once removed, I think Apple will be able to offer both an "air" redesign and extended battery life.

I absolutely love my backlit keyboard on my MBP... but to be honest... I never turn it on... almost never used it, so this feature never been a deal breaker for me :O

Yeah baby! Bring it back!

Never been a big concern for me as I have never used one before.

Trust me .. its a deal-breaker if its not backlit !

I'm sure Apple do this just so they can bring it back in a newer model 8-(

I explicitly did not by the current revision precisely because it did not have the keyboard backlight .. it makes *that* much difference to me  Okay, so it was also the significant drop in speed between it and my '09 13" Pro .. if they've given it a good speed bump and backlighting then I'm getting one.

I'm also looking forward to Lion, iOS5 and iCloud ... and if they change the iPhone from the pretty but awful to hold box shape to something more akin to my 3GS then I'll upgrade to that as well .. if they keep the same sharp-edged shape then I'll probably pass again .. curves are better to hold

I would love apple to surprise me with a 15" model and discrete gpu... I can dream :D

...Guess i"ll have to see what the MBP refresh brings, looking for a new portable Oct!

I'm excited by the imminent prospect of sandy bridge airs, intel 3000hd not so much... Either way, bring it on!
