Backup Applications

I have my music, documents, etc. backed up. The thing that I'm curious about is my applications folder. I have deleted all of the .dmg's and I'm worried I will lose my apps if my powerbook messes up.

(I'm worried because my battery is sucking up a lot of power and I have read it may be the logic board.)

For most applications, backing them up is as simple as copying them elsewhere.
