I still appreciate your help and insight. I'm wondering if there is a way to append duplicate file names. I've seen before where file names are the exact same names, but for instance with a (1) next to it to show as a duplication. Maybe that was in windows though.

I'll have to try it out and see if macOS prompts me to "keep both" if it encounters duplicates and just adjusts one of the file names.

You're welcome. Finder on macOS will prompt you if you want to merge folders when you copy/paste, but I don't know how to automate this process with a script.
