Backup iPhoto - safe?

So I just took the whole iPhoto folder and copied it to an external HDD.
As long as I have this HDD I'm safe right?
I don't even need a mac right?
All the photos are stored in their original?

Right, but you'll have to dig into that file to view those photos if you don't have a Mac and iPhoto
