Hi, I just bought a new iPad Pro and I would like to migrate all my settings, accounts and messages from my iPhone to the new iPad . . . I have backed up my iPhone to both iTunes and also iCloud and have tried several times to restore this backup onto the iPad . . . it all completes fine but then when the iPad starts up none of the settings from the iPhone have migrated across, also none of the iMessages, no mail accounts - nothing except for it starting to slowly download all my apps from the app store (not even in all the folders I had set up on my iPhone) - Basically after completing the restore from the iPhone, the iPad is behaving like a brand new clean iPad and it's only even downloading the apps because I have put my iTunes store settings in.

Any help appreciated. I am using the same identical iCloud account on both the phone and iPad

Patience. Wait for everything to complete, then sync it.

Thanks but I am not trying to sync or download iTunes Store content, I am trying to restore settings and data from another device. I've done backup and restore from one iPhone to another many times and it's never booted up and failed to have migrated any data across before.

I've been unable to restore from my iCloud backup for almost 4 days on both my iPhone and iPad. Created a support ticket with Apple and playing the waiting game now. Sucks, but there really isn't anything you can do unless you have a local iTunes backup.

Understand. But I believe that "restoring from backup" includes downloading store content and must be followed by a full sync to get all settings, data, etc. That has been my recent experience -- moving from iPad Air to Pro.

I had no problem doing a restore to my old iPad Air. Have you previously done a restore across different products? I would think that's your problem. The apps for a phone are not always the same on an iPad so I would say the configuration is not transferable.

Nix those comments above. A Google search says you can do it but the operating system versions have to be able to sync.

You should contact Apple.

Has anyone successfully done a restore from iPhone to iPad? (i.e.: where the settings and iMessages migrate from phone to iPad successfully?) - I don't mean syncing apps with the iTunes store - I am talking about a backup on the iPhone and restoring that iPhone backup onto an iPad. Thanks

Yes, I did it with my first iPad and I wanted to sync the content between by devices.

Thanks, I've set my iPad up pretty much from scratch now, I backed up my iPhone via iTunes and restored it onto my iPad, as mentioned when the iPad started up, NONE of the iPhone settings appeared on the iPad, not just some apps and messages but no email accounts, no passwords, nothing. So I wiped my iPad and tried the same thing again, same again - nothing. So I wiped the iPad again and this time restored from an iCloud backup of the phone that was a couple of weeks old: it took a long time and then booted up the same again - nothing imported from the phone. So I set the iPad up from scratch which took me about 24 hours of work and the result is all good except none of the messages are on my iPad.
