iPod touch Backup session failed

Hi,

Does anyone know what this message means?

iTunes could not back up the iPod "Nermal's iPod" because the backup session failed.

Everything I've found online so far either applies to jailbroken iPods (mine's not), or Windows (I'm using OS X 10.6.2). I've restored the iPod and reinstalled iTunes and still get the error. Does anyone know what causes it, or how to get some actual useful details out of the error message?

Edit: Forgot to mention that it happens intermittently; maybe once every 2 or 3 synchs.

I had a bit of a headache with this message over my time for me the issue seemed to be a problem with my mail accounts. I had to remove my mail accounts from the phone, sync and then add the mail accounts back onto the phone.

Does the sync fail at any specific point?

I'd love to answer that, but naturally it only wants to fail while I'm not watching it 🙄

I've seen this on my touch,, but only a couple times. It always worked when I tried it again so I never paid it much attention.

Removing the email account did not help. I'll delete the backups from my hard drive and give it another couple of days to see what happens.
