Ok, I'm trying to figure out the best configuration for my setup. Here's what I have:

- Airport Extreme Base Station
- Mac Mini Server (DHCP) running iTunes & Home Automation software, uses internal second HD for its own Time Machine.
- Synology DS1010+ 10TB Raid6 Gigabit Ethernet Connection, with 2 volumes- one for general files, other for iTunes Media.
- Apple TV several that stream media from the Mac Mini iTunes/Synology

I'm replacing my Mac Pro with a new Retnia MBP and it will be used with my LED display.

So I'm thinking of buying a G-Technology 4TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array with Thunderbolt to connect to my rMBP for storing my Photo libraries and Archived files. This would give me incredible speed for when working in Aperture & Photoshop.

My question is where should my Time Machine connect to? I can use a volume on the Synology for Time Machine over Gigabit, or Connect a Thunderbold RAID to the Mini Server as a shared Volume, or a USB drive to the Airport Extreme. or Simply use another G-Technology 8TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array with Thunderbolt to connect to my rMBP.

Since Mountain Lion will have Power Nap (the ability to run Time machine backups at night while the system is sleeping) it may not be a problem to have Time Machine connected to the network.

So many ways to do the same thing. Any suggestions?
