Ok, I've serached the forums, and I am new here so go easy one me, but I cant find the answer I'm looking for, simple question:

If I delete my iPhone backup on my mac, will it permanantley delete my Text SMS info?
I'm trying to find out how to delete it permanatly.
Thanks

If you delete the iPhone backup file on your computer, then the SMS data will also be deleted on your computer.

To delete the data off your phone, you would have to delete the entire thread, delete each message individually, or "erase all content and settings."

If you sent or received something you don't want anyone finding, I recommend wiping and reinstalling iOS under DFU mode and using the secure delete trash option on your computer.

Foil hat warning: Most service providers keep a log of the phone numbers you send and receive texts from for a year or more. Some, like Sprint store the actual text content for a few months.
