I have seen similar things with Thinkpads, too. Things do seem to come in and out of favour, however.

I've got a Thinkpad on the way, an old 380Z, in decent condition hopefully just needing an OS install...and a strong table to place it on.
It'll be a nice base for my ancient Psion, Clie and digital cameras that are happy with Win98.
I think if any of my main Macs pack up my next frontline machine will be a recent Thinkpad running Linux - the ones I've had in the past were terrific laptops.
I'm beginning to think with the deprecation of post Leopard OSes on Intel Macs, money spent on one would be a waste.
Posting this on a Thinkcentre running El Capitan right now. I recently got a pair of recent-ish Thinkpads for free from an office clearance, barely used. The build quality is not what it was and neither are the once outstanding keyboards, unfortunately. I do have a soft spot for Thinkpads (i.e. I have a collection) and will probably hang onto my working pair of 701s even if I have a clear out at some stage or other.

The 701 - my first eBay purchase around 1999/2000....it arrived DOA and the seller "disappeared."
Back then I had no patience and it went straight in the bin!
When you get stuck in Apple tunnel vision, it's easy to forget there were/are some well built PCs out there, my particular favourite was the Panasonic Toughbook CF-29.
Should have held onto it with hindsight. Even broken 701s fetch a pretty penny these days. No other way to get spare parts.

Well this is more of a 'strange' listing than a 'bad' one.
MacBook Pro 13" mid 2010. 100UKpounds.
The seller says, "I'm selling a 2 years old MacBook Pro 13" mid 2010 version. The laptop doesn't turn on. I've checked with the repairs center and they said it just requires a bit of cleaning inside, and some small details have to be replaced. The main reason it doesn't work is because it wasn't used for several months."
Hands up those who don't believe him........?
Think the seller could be living in a time-warp, 2010 version now only 2 years old?
As for the reasons it doesn't turn on, I distinctly smell a few porkies here!
Having said that, if it was next door, I'd check it out for 100pounds (128USD)

Last year I planned to buy a new 2012 Apple notebook.
That 2012 model would now be a year old.

(I have a TiBook with bust hinges, but no way would I deface it further with an oversize hinge like that, which has not even been colour-paint matched).

Seriously for a moment, I'm somewhat surprised that Power Mac G5 models can be so inexpensive. $60 for one that reportedly needs nothing more than a power supply to get it working normally, and so on.
At the other extreme: a whopping $1,499 for a refurbished model with just 512 MB memory. The shop's tag line –

The listing says it's a 1997(!) model, but it appears to be a slot loading one, so it's actually a later model... But who cares, it's still rare, original, and very collectible, right?
