Retuning 4s

I purchased two 4S's. My wife's phone seemed fine for about a week, no real problems at all. Then yesterday she calls me and says the battery is down to 14% (this was at 9:30am). It charged all night and she had only made two short calls on it. Shortly after it completely drained.

Today at 9:05am my time, the phone is at 50% after being off the charger for a little over an hour. It doesn't have the heat issue that others have noted.

As if that isn't bad enough, it now drops calls (this started yesterday also) after about 2 to 4 minutes. This is probably an entirely different/coincidental problem. It changes from AT&T 3G to SEARCHING every couple of minutes whether you're on a call or not. My 4S doesn't do this constant searching.

I looked at Settings-General-About-Diagnostics and Usage-Diagnostics and Usage Data. It had message after message that looks like this:

deviceId: "I deleted this info-wasn't sure if it was a phone identifier"
isAnonymous: true
deviceConfigId: 101
triggerTime: 1319543405184
triggerId: 524308
profileId: 10127
investigationId: 0
metricCCAirplaneMode {
airplaneModeEnabled: false
timestamp: 1319543405183
}

I'm not a programmer but the "metricCCAirplaneMode" part disturbs me since her phone is turning off so frequently and we have TONS of these messages. My phone has messages but nothing like this.

So anyway, the wife's phone is going back to the Apple store since this product is brand new and very useless. I'm planning on going tonight and will let you all know what transpires.

Here's an update to my day:

Battery is at 31%

Usage: 3 Hours, 40 Minutes
Standby: 9 Hours, 41 Minutes

Again, all this from Moderate to High usage. Since I'm coming from Android (blah) and this is my first time on an iPhone/iOS please feel free to let me know if this is good or bad.

*UPDATE*

Here's my last update for the day before I charge it up, currently at 15%:

After a full day with usage of 3 hours 19 minutes and standby of 13 hours 19 minutes my phone is at 55% battery.

Back from the Apple store. They just gave us a new phone. They didn't act surprised at all and I was only in the store for maybe ten or fifteen minutes. So far the new phone is working fine.

If you're still having problems with your iPhone's battery, try out this quick fix: http://bit.ly/sFsKZD

Should work like a charm, did for me :cool:

I would suggest that if your phone dies that fast while using iCloud you should return it to Apple immediately (assuming it's under warranty). Both my wife and I back up to iCloud and we don't have the battery drain described here. We did, as noted earlier, have to return her defective/battery draining phone for a good one.

I've had my phone off the charger for about four hours now and have made no calls. The battery is at 96%. According to this article my phone should have been dead an hour ago.

I wonder if I have some sort of spyware (keylogger, audiologger..) on my iPhone 4S. Howto check that?

Because battery life only 24h :mad:

No one really knows why this happens. Usually it's after doing an update for many experiencing this issue. My bro ran into it when he updated to 6.0.1, but since updating to the latest iOS, it's not as bad. I recently updated to 6.0.1 and noticed my battery draining pretty quickly when I'm using my phone. Much quicker than when I was running on 6.0. However, when not in use, battery doesn't drain fast like some others are experiencing. Even after restoring from backup, the usage battery drain is still faster than normal. Have you tried the restore from back up, and restore from new tips? If none of those work, especially restore from new, your phone's battery is pretty much toast. Take it to the Genius Bar.

It seems, from my observation since iOS 3.x.x, whenever Apple creates an update or a major upgrade, there is always a glitch that causes the phone to act abnormally. One of those abnormalities, is the classic fast battery drain. Now I don't know if that's intentional to get people to update to the latest version of iOS or for those with older phones to upgrade to the newer iPhones. All I can say is, I never had any issues with iOS till 4.0 came out. It's just been a hit and miss since. Keyboard tech has also been crap for the last few versions. Too much concentration on glitz and glam by Apple. Not enough on functionality and useability.

how long is your battery life with your old iPhone 4S? I do mainly Exchange and voice communication.

Depends on usage. I always plug my phone to the wall charger every night, so don't know how long it takes to drain to 0% by just sitting without using. But before my battery issues kicked in, with normal usage for the day (checking emails, using Facebook, Twitter, maybe take a couple of pics and videos, and play a couple of games) from 8am - 7pm, my battery would go from 100% to around 70-65%. Now, since the battery issue started for me, same usage, by 7pm it would be down to around 45%. Oddly enough, this is the first time that battery drain is very minimal if I just let my phone sit on the table. Maybe 1% drain every couple of hours. But as soon as I check Facebook or Twitter (as an example), within 3 min battery drain is about 6%. Prior to battery issue, I can be on either of those two apps for 30 min, and drain would only be about 4%.

Compared to my previous issues with battery drain on my other iPhones, this one is the most tolerable. I just have to make sure that if I'm not going straight home, I charge up at work, or use apps sparingly. Minimize phone use to texting, and checking emails. Shouldn't have to, but what can you do. Apple really needs to figure out what the issue is with these random battery drains.
