My landlord just ordered a new cable modem to try to remember problems I've been having maintaining an internet connection at the house. Every now and then, I remain connected to the wifi network but don't get internet. Often, disabling and re-enabling wifi fixes it, other times not.

To be fair, the network itself definitely goes down, and is Verizon's fault. Other times, though, I seem to be the only one having a problem. I have tried both default DNS settings and Google DNS. I haven't noticed issues at work or school. What can I do to diagnose the issue?

I'm on a MacBook Air with Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Thanks!

If you can try to connect to the modem to see if you have any issues. If not, its your router.
