Thought to share a buying experience I had with usedmac.com. I placed an order on the usedmac.com website but it was manually rejected with an Out of Stock email message. I was quite surprised considering the Out of Stock wasn't indicated when I made the purchase.

Going back to the web site, I found the item has a much higher price tag (> $50 difference). I think something was going on with the pricing algorithm, then the seller decided to stop the sale manually to revise the new price tag.

Who else should I avoid purchasing mac spare parts online?

I had that happen once, but I don't think it was an intentional thing. I had a TiBook 400 and those were notorious for their bad Airport antennas. I ordered a third party antenna addon only to find out that they'd been out of stock of that part for well over a year or more. It didn't indicate that when I added it to my cart, but at checkout my payment was rejected and that's when I found out why.

I'm not saying you're wrong about what happened, just relating my experience.

Generally, it's a good idea to avoid online sellers hawking parts and accessories for 14+ year old PowerPC Macs. There are some legit sites, but other than those a lot of these places have just never cleaned up their sites.

To be honest usedmac worked fine for me. Some of the parts they have are more affordable than what you'd find on ebay, some others not really.

Also possibly depends on how unusual/unlikely to be in stock the part you've ordered is; that kind of suddenly out of stock happened to me on other sites as well.

Others experience doesn't invalidate yours of course, just not complaining here I guess.

i have bought pismo parts from usedmac and have had no issues whatsoever from them. even to my surprise, what i ordered, they added more. when i ordered a new pismo logicboard, he threw in a whole new bottom with everything attached for no extra charge.

I've bought a bunch of things from them over the years. Full computers as well as parts. If I buy parts I often get more than I bought and I only had a mistake once. I bought a laptop and they sent me the slightly wrong model. They allowed me to mail it back for a full refund.
