I have a late 2009 Mac mini that I bought in March. 2 weeks ago I tried to use an apple remote with it and it would not work. Apple change the IR board on the mini. After 10 days I picked my mini up from the apple store and I noticed 4 marks from when they opened the mini. Ripped aluminum gouge marks on the bottom of the case, the back of the case by USB port does not line up anymore. I brought it to there attention but did not make a big stink and left. I have open a few mini's before (not this one)and know how it is easy to mess up.

When I got home I tried to use my bluetooth devices and they would not work, I tried the magic mouse, track pad, KB. I called apple to trouble shoot and they said I have to bring it back in for repair after 20 minutes of trouble shooting.

I guess I'm going to be looking at another 10 days without my mac.

Do you guys and gals think I have any grounds on asking for a new unit, since they broke something in the repair, and put those marks on my mac mini case?

Regarding the gouges, odds are they'll not give a hoot since they don't affect the computer's ability to function. How they managed to mess that up is beyond me though, since Apple's official parts are non-metallic. Seriously, it took effort to mess up that badly.

They won't replace the entire computer. They'd just replace the affected parts.

If you're feeling slightly adventurous, I'd open the computer yourself. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't reconnect the bluetooth antenna lead to its connector on the logic board.

I'd also consider taking it to a different Apple Store to explain the situation. You also should consider taking before and after photos if possible. Calling Apple customer service might also get you somewhere if you have enough evidence.

Stories like this are why I A) work on my own computers and B) work on my own cars.

I just got back from apple, they forgot to connect the bluetooth antenna.
I complained about the bad repair job, marks on the bottom and my wasted time. They gave me a free magic mouse am I am now happy.

    I have an update

with a closer inspection of my case I have noticed that the serial number sticker is incorrect

    it tells me I have a 1.42 ghz G4/512MB/80GB/sd/ap/bt

now since this is not my case it would explain the marks. the original repair was to change the IR sensor.

Does the information in System Profiler match the above info or does it match your mini's specs? Maybe it's not a different case, but a different mini.
