Honestly, every year there’s something new. If I’d started this thread in Nov I would have heard the same thing.
Bullsh*tAs mentioned previously, the best time to buy a new model phone is approximately 5 months or later after it has been released (Feb 1 onwards). Launch day phones come with a brand new 'beta' version of the newest iOS release that's ALLways very buggy. You get a brand new fancy phone with crappy software on it.
If you wait for five months or so after release before buying a new phone, several (yet not all) of the most glaring bugs will be fixed in updates to the OS.
Launch day iPhones suck big time.
Should have waited. We are only 4 months in from the model 12 launch. But enjoy your new phone

I say the 11 has the upper-hand only because the battery life of the 11 is top of the line. The 12 has been criticized for its step backwards in battery life. The difference may not be as big as it seems from internet noise and on paper.
But really, I agree. Either one will serve you well.
I think this is part of the beautiful thing of iPhone, you pick the one you want and stick with it for a few years and you’ll be good.Everyone needs to get out of this mindset of “get the latest (12) because Apple will support it the longest”
I’m on a 6s and Apple is still supporting it 6 years later. Lol
I just updated to 14.4.2 and works fine. How many of you are going to keep your 12 for 6 years? Lol My guess, not many.

Depending on your plan you may be experiencing congestion depriorititization. Which is why I don't use the Verizon network for my main phone. (I just moved locations at work. At my last site Verizon data was almost unusable in many spots in the building. The new building, looks to be on par with ATT).Related question, I switched service from T-Mobile to Xfinity. Both show full coverage for my workplace on maps but since the switch my xs is nearly useless. Would a pro max help with this or is it entirely carrier related?
Keep your iPhone 6 (in my case), because it still works just fine. Besides, you’re working from home and no one’s going to even see that shiny new iPhone 12.![]()
I'm wondering if it's a bad idea to buy one now though?
I can't think of any reason to buy a smartphone in 2021 other than a shattered screen on the old one.

same as last year thenI can't think of any reason to buy a smartphone in 2021 other than a shattered screen on the old one.
I'm seeing a lot of impulse purchases made out of sheer boredom, then promptly regretted.
Chances are that you're not going to exploit properly the improved camera or the battery life in this specific year.
Does Xfinity have wifi calling? I believe T-Mobile does.Related question, I switched service from T-Mobile to Xfinity. Both show full coverage for my workplace on maps but since the switch my xs is nearly useless. Would a pro max help with this or is it entirely carrier related?
I would just consider replacing the battery, and take that opportunity for Apple genius to troubleshoot other issues as well.I have been looking at size comparisons and it does seem like the 12 is not much of an upgrade over my current, so I guess I'm looking at either the pro max or waiting. Mine has been working decently but for the last couple months has started doing randomly weird things. Sometimes the camera just won't work, it'll just show a black screen until i force restart. Sometimes even though it shows full bars and is connected to wifi it will just lose all connection until I either force restart or put it into airplane mode.
It's only mid-cycle and not end of cycle, so it's not a bad time at all if you want / need to upgrade. Personally, I just traded in my XR yesterday for the 12 Pro Max; and that extra .6" of screen translates to more than it seems on paper.Just ordered the 12 in black. Coming from an XS which has cracked glass and a dodgy camera because of that 😂
My work kindly pay most of the bill/cost, and I was due for a free upgrade this week.
Given that I’ll want to take nice photos this summer, I didn’t want to wait another 6 months. Hope I’ve made the right decision getting the upgrade now!
You made a good upgrade right there. It's only mid-cycle and not end of cycle, so it's not a bad time at all if you want / need to upgrade. Personally, I just traded in my XR yesterday for the 12 Pro Max; and that extra .6" of screen translates to more than it seems on paper.
