I know with the Nano promotion that we'll be seeing new models of those soon, and with the iPhone's impact we'll likely see new full-sized iPods soon, but what about the shuffle?

I'm highly tempted to pick one up. Is there any reason I should wait a few months?

i don't think the shuffles will see any updates for a long time. the form factor is about as good as it can get, and the only area of improvement i can see is storage. if 1 gb is enough for you, i see no reason to hesitate.

Apple will introduce a new shuffle one week after you buy yours. Whether you buy it today or in six months time doesn't matter. You might as well buy it now :p

Updates for the shuffle are a long time off. I'd suggest getting one now, but use ebay. You can get a brand new one in box for 40-50 dollars on ebay. I've got one of the new shuffles, and I think it's a really solid little machine. I love it. It's light, holds enough songs for about a day of listening, and it's beautiful. You wont be disappointed.

I don't think that it is a bad time, I just bought one a week or two ago. The only real upgrades that they can do is to increase capacity, but at least for me I don't want much more than 1GB if I can't go directly to it. So I would suggest buying now.

I bought my 2G Shuffle then they released the coloured models! I would love an orange one  (match my Crumpler). Nevermind.

They're fantastic systems and I cannot see how they can be improved. Anything more than 1gb without a screen is just going to be a mess to navigate, I've still to fill it. Battery life? I've never had mine die on me! The clip is possibly the best design idea on a music player. It's the toughest iPod on the market too. Indestructable that thing!

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if mine broke now. Heck it'd be a reason to buy that orange one :D

I'd say get a refurbished one if you are at all worried about a new one coming out soon. They're only $49! (Or £34 in the UK)
At that price, it doesn't matter if a new one comes out soon, cos you could just give the old one away.

There's never really been a bad time to buy a Shuffle. They're cheap, simple, and probably will continue to function in the exact same manner for a while to come.

It is not a bad time to buy a Shuffle, but I would consider buying Refurbished if i were you and save some cash, i think it's like a difference of $30 for basically the same thing :p

Seconded. Shuffles are so cheap, especially the refurbs, so you are not losing anything by buying one at any time. If you happen to buy one a week before the lineup was updated, just buy an extra one and use the old one at work/car/gim

Get one.

I have a blue shuffle and it's great. I've charged it like 5 times since April when I got it and it hasn't died on me. (Though that could be because I did have another iPod to use.)
