Bagel decision-making: Cream cheese or jam?

Depends on my mood I guess. Sometimes I like cream cheese. Others I like just butter. Sometimes jam. And sometimes, just plain.

I do prefer them to be toasted first!

Deliberately swirling the jam into the cream cheese and getting the right mix is pretty decisive, and tasty too.

first you have to fry the bagel in butter to toast it then the cream cheese and strawberry jam

Manhattan Bagel is possibly the only chain of stores that makes good bagels. Even in Philly, we sometimes got them there.

You can't have bagels without cream cheese, though.

Bagels aren't that popular here but I've had a few with smoked salmon in cafes. I think it'd taste great with the cheese and jam - almost like a scone with jam and cream.

I'm with Poppyhead on this, but I like mine with honey. And I miss my chewy New York bagels but people swear by the Fairmont Bakery bagels here in Montreal

You beat me to it. There's nothing better than cream cheese with jam, and since it's bought that way, it's completely decisive.

you slice the bagles in half and use roughly a tablespoon of butter (please no oleo or margerine) in a shallow frying pan and toast the bagles in the butter then smear them with cream cheese and strawberry jam

it is supprisingly good and healthy

french toast bagles are also good

Well, I prefer butter to either of those, but I guess cream cheese would be my next choice.

And the best bagels around are the ones from Bagel World in Salem, MA. They're always fresh and... just... awesome.
Fanagel-a-Bagel is also quite good.

Hmmmmm. I may have to check that out. I haven't been to a Manhattan Bagel in years.

i agree, cream cheese and jam is awesome. Also, many will cringe when i say this, but another awesome combo, and don't knock it til you try it. Bacon and cream cheese. on a bagel. It is awesome
