This strap just literally fell apart after about 6 months. It's such poor quality it's unbelievable. Are other customers having this problem? It seems as though the bottom layer is wearing just from the magnets connecting then reconnecting over time. It's nothing I did, it's just really poor workmanship.

Apple told me too bad, bands are never warrantied. Paying 119 plus canadian tax for this piece of junk I feel really ripped off.

No, it never got soaked. Besides normal wear and tear nothing happened to it. I have a regular silicon watch band that I will be replacing it from my old series 1 apple watch and that is over 3 years old now.

It just gets me apple just dosent even want to acknowledge this is poor quality and just tells me its not warrantied and buy a new one. It's so disappointing.

Yeah, that is very disappointing that Apple won’t even take it or refund you.

Yeah, they didn't care one little bit. I know this watch band is new, I wonder if anyone else is having these issues. Did I miss something? Was I suppose to treat it with something? I wore it exercising, but it should be able to withstand sweat, it's a watch band.

No, you weren’t supposed to treat it with something. Like you said, “it’s a piece of junk.”

What in the world were you doing?
Nothing out of the ordinary. I exercised with it, the other side looks fine. The stress on the leather from the magnets coming on and off just ripped it.

I also have a bigger wrist, so that would mean less "magnet pills" the strap could use which would mean more pressure would be put on the ones that needs to attract to stay on my wrist. It's a faulty design.

Possibly a defect batch. I do have 3 different leather loops but they don’t look nothing like that. I will post the pictures later today. But it looks like they are getting beat up.

UPDATE!
This is what mine looks like… you can see the scuffing and black marks.

Looks like I’ll be making a phone call to Apple and asking for a replacement for both of these AW bands.

I dunno, I can't see the little magnets inside the leather. That's the underside of the band, the other side is "baltic blue" and looks completely fine.
Leather and sweat do not mix. The bands should have a warranty (I hate when they say AppleCare for a watch applies to bands), but that warranty would not cover working out in leather. You should get a braided if you want a dress-up/workout band.

You can see from the pic it's from the wear and tear of taking off the band from the magnets forcing together and coming off. Maybe sweat weakened it but you can't expect a person to never sweat with a leather watch strap, but if this was a normal leather strap I don't think I would have an issue, it's the force of the magnets that essentially caused the rip.

That's not what apple told me, they repeated bands are not covered under warrenty. They didn't even ask about exercising, it was just an immediate reaction like muscle memory for them.

Very odd. I’ve had a leather loop on my series 0 from day 1, and it’s in absolutely perfect condition.

Thanks, that makes me feel much better about getting ripped off with a bad batch 🙄 This is a different design though, its the leather link not loop.

My Apple leather case for my iPhone was severely damaged from sweat while working out. I wore it in an elastic waistband that is designed to carry things while you run and after an hour and a half run it was permanently stained and started to peel after it dried off. I had even treated the case several times with leather conditioner and sealant. I'll never use a leather product while working out again. I only use the silicone sport band, Nike sport band or sport loupe when exercising....

If the force of the magnets — which is directed normal to the band surface — themselves caused it, the tear would most likely not run cleanly across the band like it does in your photo. That’s not how force works.

There’s a huge difference between the amount of liquid that a leather band would encounter through typical daily wear and that which it’d experience through presumably numerous workouts. The sweat caused the band to warp and become discolored and brittle. Eventually some other force, likely while you were fastening or unfastening the band, caused it to tear because the leather had deteriorated to that extent from liquid exposure.

I figure this issue was likely exacerbated by the texture of the band; the "bumps" are deeper than in the similar Leather Loop band from Apple and certainly deeper than a flat leather strap, for example, and this presumably puts more strain on the leather. This issue would have happened eventually regardless of any hypothetical leather band you exercised with, though, because leather is leather, and leather does not go well with water (or sweat).

Ultimately, you should never wear a leather band in a scenario where it will be exposed to significant amounts of water or sweat, which Apple communicates to you if you read the product description when buying a watch band (and frankly is also common sense). Get a fluoroelastomer, silicone, or nylon band for exercise.

That's not what apple told me, they repeated bands are not covered under warrenty. They didn't even ask about exercising, it was just an immediate reaction like muscle memory for them.
I mean, the damage clearly falls under “accidental damage,” not a manufacturing defect, so regardless of whether watch bands are covered under warranty or not, you’re up a creek. Sorry you had to find out the hard way.

Absolutely not normal. I have the black one since day one and it’s perfect . Either defective or you don’t know how to properly attach it and or detach it. You have to lift it without rubbing. And I work out with it too even if I shouldn’t.

Again, if it were only from sweat then it wouldn't be just one area that is ripped.

Some people have sweat that can disintegrate metal.
I have this dude I sometimes help with computers. He has had MacBook Pros from G4 and up and the palmrests on all of them looks like you've poured some really strong acid on them. Too bad I don't have any pics of it, it really looks amazing, lots of little cavities where the metal has been dissolved.
He insists that he never uses acid in close vicinity to the computer ;) and I have no reason to doubt him.
