I like to hear from one of these Apple fanatics to say why software patents should be legal when Coca-Cola, KFC, Pepsi and all these other food manufacturers with recipes have survived this long without being able to patent recipes.

You cannot patent the Coac-Cola recipe. Why should iOS or any other piece of software be patentable?

Copyright? Yes. Patent. Absolutely no.

Something puzzles me.

Again and again on these forums we see the new stories about Apple Banning or trying to ban a product, and when they manage to win their court case.

So how come this story about the UK Judge who has not sided with Apple seems to be ignored and not put up as a current/latest news story?

UK judge rules HTC doesn't violate Apple's patents, invalidates Cupertino's claims

MacRumors have run stories about legal cases where apple haven't come out on top.

I love reading about every tenth comment planted here by posters who are clearly plants working to enforce Samsung's side...

Like this from the first page:

"How dissapointing as an owner of iPhone4s, iPad Retina, Apple tv 2 & 3, a macbook pro, and iMac. This is bad for all consumers."

There's another obvious plant on page one as well.

I'm pretty sure google and samsung don't care about this site.

...which is actually the worst thing anyone can ever do ever. Wait until you have to deal with a lawyer. Even the ones you hired with your own **** money, the ones who are supposedly on your side, you just...really...so bad...want to punch them in the head as hard as you can.

I know lawyers suck, but giving them money isn't bad. It's just barely good since they have to pay taxes and hire other people.

Because it is bad for consumers. Period.

Apple is not doing this for you. Apple is doing this for their own bottom line. Nothing more. Nothing less. This has *nothing* to do for you. *None* of these patent cases provide *any benefit* to you as a consumer. Period.

The fact that you and many Apple fanatics support Apple blindly like this is simply astounding.

Agreed.

Maybe I'm a planted Samsung proponent as well? Looks at registration date. Nah... probably not.

This makes me reconsider my comming purchase of a Macbook Air. Is Apple becoming the new Microsoft?

Don't be evil.

You should do some research. Coca Cola attempted to patent a specific bottle shape at one point. Seems your example of the exemplary company might not be such a good one to argue against patents.

Not a big deal because I would never buy the junk from Samsung a.k.a. Apple Copy Cat Kings.

It's funny how so many of the Apple newcomers (old Microsoft fanboys, now switched?) are completely uncritical to all things regarding Apple.

Back in the days when Apple was a small company fighting the Microsoft monopoly, there was actually a reason to be an Apple fanboy, now not so much.

Microsoft is not and was never a monopoly. I think you guys have learned too much from movies, where the big company is always evil. Are people just trying to be hipsters and root for the smaller company?

The only monopoly around here is California Edison. The power goes down every week, and they don't give a @#$%.

Waste isn't good even if it stimulates the economy. Look up the parable of the broken mirror.

Just because it is written doesn't mean it's true, Gwonam (obscure reference).

They make good screens, including the ones that are in Apple devices ;)

I'd still take a Samsung smartphone over an HTC smartphone. HTC is trash.

I'm sorry what ?

III.
MICROSOFT'S POWER IN THE RELEVANT MARKET

33. Microsoft enjoys so much power in the market for Intel-compatible PC operating systems that if it wished to exercise this power solely in terms of price, it could charge a price for Windows substantially above that which could be charged in a competitive market. Moreover, it could do so for a significant period of time without losing an unacceptable amount of business to competitors. In other words, Microsoft enjoys monopoly power in the relevant market.

Maybe you should learn a thing or two about entities you wish to talk about uh ? Or are you accusing the US District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson of being a Hipster ?

Just another subject where you bring up things without knowing what it is you're talking about... Seems like a bad habit you have.

Honestly, that is incorrect. There was competition, but it was just horrible. You can't blame Microsoft just because Mac OS was so bad. It's like calling Apple a monopoly because so few people bought any music player besides the iPod. Yeah, what else was there, the trash known as the Zune?

I think Microsoft was/is pretty anti-competitive but not a monopoly. Now that Mac OS is actually good, people are switching.

Wait, you're saying a US District court Finding of Facts is incorrect ? After lawyers argued for both sides, provided evidence to prove/disprove the basis and that a judge with full knowledge of Anti-trust laws and legal definitions of what is and isn't a monopoly, what is and isn't abuse and relevant control of market, after weighing all of this, came to this conclusion, YOU are saying it is incorrect ?

Pray tell, on what facts and basis do you provide this sudden insight ? Look, maybe you don't know about Microsoft's history or what a monopoly is, but don't deny the FACTS.

Apple is correct in this case.

Android came to be because they basically stole the idea of iOS from Apple. I have absolutely NO respect for Google because they are the worst of the worst.

They're not interested in moving the web forward - they're interested in controlling the internet with unoriginal ideas.
