Banksy has been at it again. :D

Hundreds of Paris Hilton albums have been tampered with in the latest stunt by "guerrilla artist" Banksy.

Banksy has replaced Hilton's CD with his own remixes and given them titles such as Why am I Famous?, What Have I Done? and What Am I For?

He has also doctored pictures of her on the CD sleeve to show the US socialite topless and with a dog's head.

A spokeswoman for Banksy said he had doctored 500 copies of her debut album Paris in 48 record shops across the UK.

She told the BBC News website: "He switched the CDs in store, so he took the old ones out and put his version in."

But he left the original barcode so people could buy the CD without realising it had been interfered with.

It would really suck to buy something and find out something else is inside the sleeve.

has anybody read the reviews on paris album on itunes? it's just great. "sounds like a drowning cat" is one of the better reviews she got. very entertaining.

as for switching the CD's: it can only be an improvement.
 
No photos/samples anyone?

I used to live near a Banksy piece on Holloway Rd - a child with a spacemens helmet on. At least I think it was him. There are now imitations everywhere. Back in Lambeth there was a "Designated Picnic Area" sketch behind Waterloo where all the prostitutes and drug dealers would hang out, but I'm quite sure that was a fake.

How did people find this out? For the ruse to be discovered someone would have had to purchase a Paris Hilton CD - I just can't get my head around it, who would buy such a thing.

I always considered her CD to be a real working example of a Schroedinger's Cat scenario - her CD could be absolutely anything until somebody buys one but seeing as how nobody would it would remain unaltered by our observation and thus could take any form possible.

People bought a Paris Hilton CD... nope, the mind still boggles.

My thoughts exactly. Banksy himself must have publicised it. There's no other explanation as to how the ruse was rumbled :confused:

PS Aye Banksy's great innie, I used to see some of his stuff around Hackney back when I lived there, but now I'm in west London, it's all poshified round here. Quite a few Turks / Lebananese around here, but they don't seem into graffitti - Hackney has been full of turkish political graffiti for the last few years.

But that quote doesn't explain HOW they discovered the switching!

Banksy sent out a press release of course. Standard form when you're a successful artist / prankster with several books and exhibitions to your credit.

I imagine the media rang up Virgin et al, who sent a staffer to check it out, (or someone from the media went down to Picadilly Circus / Tottenham Court Road to check it out (can't see them having that much energy tho)). Banksy is well known to the media, so they're more likely to follow up his press releases. And they love to rag on Paris too :)

The whole Bansky thing is awesome. As far as why she is famous? Because she has the cash to produce an album that sounds bad and pay people to make it sound good. Let's just say it'll be a little while before we hear her live....probably more Ashlee Simpson live than anything else. ;)

Ashlee Simpson live or Eminem Live? Because, well, both have terrible singing.

As for Paris, she shouldn't have made an album. As for her scandals and whatnot, it's the same exact crap that goes on in High School and College. It doesn't help that she grew up in the generation in which Clueless taught blondes to be idiots. And all smart, hot blondes are delegated to shows such as Stargate and Law stuff, shows most teenage girls wouldn't watch, sadly. Maybe portray a blonde as smart, intelligent may save society. Unfortunately, I think not.
