Thats easy to say, but why? I still have a 16gb iPhone. And have no issues dumping pictures and videos every few months to free up space. Then from there I back them up to my external drive. I just installed a few games and still have 80gb free on the macbook.

Because with the 128GB, you're probably left with around 100 to 110GB after Mac OS X installation and updates etc. Then it is good practice to leave at least 10 to 20 percent of the SSD free for virtual memory etc, therefore about of that 100GB you will need to leave at least 10 to 20GB free therefore only giving you 80 to 90 gigabytes of usable space. Now this is without any applications etc.

In my opinion, and not to sound harsh, if you can afford to buy a rMBP, then you can afford the extra £200 to pay for the extra storage. If money is really that tight for you, then you should be looking at cheaper options and not shooting yourself in the foot by limiting your storage.

Now, with mobiles it's slightly different, people upgrade a lot quicker and therefore can live with the limitations of low space. Normally people keep Laptops for a lot longer, I for one keep them for at least 3 years (duration of AppleCare plan)

It really wasn't about the money. I have actually been thinking about returning this one and getting the bigger drive, but only if I really needed it. I don't feel like I do. With the external drive, Im good. As for apps, I don't keep around crap I don't use on a regular basis. I install and delete apps on demand. Nothing is that important. I still might get the 256 only because the write speed is twice as fast, but everything else is the same and not important to me. This one has been smoking fast and Ive been enjoying it a great deal.

That's actually another good point, the read/write speeds are quite a bit better if I remember correctly.

All in all, I think the 256 upgrade is needed. If money was your concern, the resale value will show through. Think, in a few years when 128GB SSD drives will be unheard of (the rMB comes with 256 as standard), it'll be harder to sell Mac's with 128GB of fixed storage when 256 is the norm.
