The i3 seems to be a pretty decent CPU for a lot of users without demanding needs. I was going go get the i3 and then up the storage, as 128GB is just too low for my needs. I will be replacing a 2014 mini that serves as a family computer with a few user accounts, and I don't want to have to manage everyone's documents and applications on external storage in case it fills up.

But when I priced out an i3 mini with a 512GB SSD it was only CHF151 less expensive than the i5 model with a 512GB SSD. Since I plan to keep this for between 4 and 6 years, this is a small price to pay for a more powerful CPU. So I went with the base i5 with 512GB SSD. I will upgrade the RAM sometime down the line to 32GB, but it isn't an urgent need for me.

The i5 is honestly overkill for my needs (I've been using a 2016 nTB MBP as my personal/work computer for two years), but combined with my eGPU it should last a long time.

at least the i5 doesn't throttle, not sure about the i3

Thank you for this. I was pleased to see all six cores maintained 3.9GHz (well above their rated 3.0GHz speed) under full load. I was surprised to see the Core i5 model doesn't include hyperthreading. Like the video reviewer I was mistakenly under the assumption it did.

Does anyone have the i3 and is willing to do a temp/wattage benchmark for us?

Does no one really have the i3 here and is interested in running a benchmark to fill in the gap?
