Nowhere does it say these features need 12 GB RAM to work. At the present time the options are devices with 8 GB (don't work) and devices with 12 GB (work). We have no way of knowing whether a device with 9 GB, 10 GB or 11 GB would work because these devices don't (yet) exist, and Apple is not going to say requires a device with 9 GB, because that would refer to unannounced products, which Apple never does. The media & individuals have made the leap to assume that you need 12 GB to enable these Siri vocal features, but there is no definitive evidence for that yet - all we know is that 8 GB is not enough.I said it needs 12 GB to work "on-device". Which is one of new Siri's biggest selling points.

The base iPhone 17 is the last of the greatest base models factoring in price, specs (some taken from the Pro series) and performance. I'm quite happy with mine coming from the 15 Pro. No need to upgrade to the 18.

The E ones will sell well no matter the refresh
Definitely not (not just the RAM but the 14 lineup was the last iPhones to support lightning and 500 cycle counts for the battery)
I’m glad though that Apple Intelligence only supports A17 Pro or higher, because not only they have 8GB of RAM but all iPhones with the action button support Apple Intelligence alone. Not just the A16 but any mute switch/ringer iPhone doesn’t support it
With the 17 lineup be lucky that the 16 lineup got a botched Apple Intelligence lineup when it came out ( only good thing that came out of Apple Intelligence was, is and always will be Adaptive Power Mode😁
It doesn’t really matter even if the regular iPhone gets all the Pro features. Most Pro buyers don’t buy the Pro because of the features, but because of the status. It’s more of a flex.
Here on MacRumors, Pro buyers are more likely to be tech enthusiasts who might actually buy it for the features. But for so-called normal users, meaning the mass market, the main reason is status.
