I am considering upgrading my old 2007 Mac Mini to a new base model.

It would be connected via HDMI to a television, serve AppleTV's throughout the house, and do occasional handbrake conversions and run Transmission. It would have to host/play/serve blu-ray rips and in the future 4k video, and run Plex as well.

Is there any reason the base Mac Mini (1.4ghz) can't do all this?

I should have searched before I posted, this is a common question.

General consensus seems to be that it is very adequate unless you are doing real-time transcoding and then to bump up the 2.x ghz.

Pretty much, maybe bump the RAM to 8GB just for future proofing, other than that totally agree.
