Hi everyone. I bought a base model 14" MacBook Pro and am overall very happy with it but there is one very annoying thing.
After a while I noticed I was missing taps pretty often, enough to notice it anyway. Especially since I never had trouble with any of the Apple trackpad I used over the years. At first I thought that was me but it was just too obvious something was weird. English isn't my native language and the issue is strange but I'll try to be clear.
The trackpad doesn't register my second tap when I Shift+tap to select multiple items. To be more precise: it registers my first tap, but then when I press Shift and tap again and the end of my selection, this second tap is not registered. I have to tap 2 more times for it to work. So what should be "tap-shift-tap" becomes "tap-shift-tap-tap-tap". It's ridiculous and extremely annoying.
EDIT: - If I release the Shift key before the end of the 3 taps, it resets the count of 3 and I have to start over the 3 taps. (so "tap-shift-tap-tap-tap" can become if I want "tap-shift-tap-tap-release-shift-tap-tap-tap" or even "tap-shift-tap-tap-release-shift-tap-release-shift-tap-tap-release-shift-tap-tap-tap". Lol does this make any sense?
/EDIT.
- If the selection ends at the item directly next to the first one (if only 2 items are selected, basically) then all works well. If the selection is more than 2 items then it happens. This doesn't make any sense.
- it's like this in Photos, Mail, Music, Numbers, Tradingview... Anywhere.
- it happens with both shift keys.
- it doesn't happen at all with my Touch ID Magic Keyboard when I connect it.
- it doesn't happen at all on my M1 MacBook Air.
- it only happens with TAPS, clicks are fine but I don't care, I am a tap person.
I tried going in the trackpad settings, then the accessibility settings, no success so I put everything back to default.
Am I alone? And can anybody think of a possible solution? I would like to try reseting the PRAM/SMC etc, but can't find anywhere how to do it on those new Macs.
If I don't find a fix it's sadly going back to Apple...
EDIT again: I just tried with Command and it's the same. Looks like a software issue but my Air doesn't have it...
