Hi guys,

I recently sold my 2017 base mbp because of the butterfly keys, currently awaiting my new base 2020mbp, I have a question about the speakers on the baseline, here
they seem way worse than the upgraded version, I was completely satisfied with my 17 speaker's, in fact I loved the sound. Now I don't know if the sound got worse or if it only sounds so bad because of the comparison with the better model?

Can anybody provide info on the base 2020 sound quality, maybe even in comparison with the 17 base mbp model?

Thanks in advance for any input.

The speakers on the base 2020 Pro are in the same configuration as the base 2017 non-Touch Bar Pro. That is, upward-facing speakers that project all their sound through the speaker grilles.

The speakers on the higher-end 2020 Pro are in the same configuration as the Touch Bar-equipped 2016, 2017, 2018, and higher-end 2019 Pro models. That is, upward-facing speakers that project sound through the speaker grilles, in addition to sound that penetrates through the side air vents. (The non-Touch Bar Pros, and the low-end Touch Bar-equipped 2019 and 2020 Pros, do not have these side vents.)

This is what gives the higher end models better separation and bass.

So in direct answer to your question: the sound on the new base Pro will be the same as you're used to.

To clarify; are the speakers themselves different or are there just additional places for the sound to escape the chassis in the upper-tier models, which give it higher fidelity and better frequency separation?
