Hello everyone,

In september i'm going to university and i'm wanting to start off fresh with a new MBP. I'll mainly use the machine to edit 1080 @60fps footage in final cut pro and from time to time i'll be using adobe photoshop & adobe muse. In the future I might get into 4k editing but for now I don't have any plans regarding 4k editing.

The guy at the apple store told me that i'll be fine with the base model for editing 1080 footage but urged me to step it up and go for the newly upgraded MBP with touchbar since there now is a quadcore processor inside this machine.

At this moment there is a back to school discount here in Holland which means the base MBP is priced at 1408,44 euros instead of 1500 euros and the newly upgraded MPB with touchbar is now 1879,13 euros instead of 2000 euros. It is a lot of money but if the machine is that much better i'm really considering buying it. What do you guys think? Should I go with the base model and save almost 500 euros or should I go with the more advanced MBP with touchbar?

Thanks in advance!

If you're editing video, I think you may find the TB model to be a better option. The non-TB MBP uses a 15W processor, which is only dual core. The new TB model, uses a 45W processor and its quad core. The performance is going to be noticeable and I think you'll be setting yourself up to succeed.

Touchbar. Two more cores, 2 fans instead of 1, better GPU, 2 extra thunderbolt ports. If they didn't upgrade the non-TB version, then it also doesn't have true tone display, bluetooth 5, better speakers, etc. I'd stay away from non-TB at its current state.
