How the heck are we suppose to know what you should do.
You decide. Its your money. Its your computer. Having others make your decisions isn't very smart.

No need to try and be a SMART ASS. Im obviously asking opinions based on the downgraded GPU power. In other words, based on longevity, Is it worth sacrificing a quad core CPU for a slightly better GPU and a DC processor.

I would, yes. The 15" 2010 models are better than the lower-end 15" 2011 model IMO. Because of the "upgraded" graphics card, it's basically just a larger 13". The graphics card is worse than last years 15" GPU.

I just decided to shell out another $200-something for the higher-end 15". It's not a bad investment I guess.

so you planning to "upgrade" to that non sandy bridge i5 because the gpu is weaker?

You've not indicated how you use your computer, what you expect of it, why you want to downgrade, how much you might save if you downgrade, etc. Not trying to be a smartass. Just pointing out that only you know yourself.

more than "should i" is necessary for anyone to offer anything which could even be conceived as meaningful advice

Keep the 2011. The cpus is dramatically faster and the GPUs are about the same. Plus Thunderbolt!
