Hello all, so my wife and I are in the process of doing a basement bathroom remodel. What we have is a pre-existing cement shower pan with no sides once so ever. Our big question is what is going to be our best option to make where the wall tiles meet the cement shower floor waterproof and watertight. Also we would need to have 2 curbs around the sides not against the wall. With the curbs again what would be the best to waterproof and make water tight. We really don't want to bust up any cement to make this work. Thanks in advance.

Are the walls in the basement cindercblock or drywall? If cinderblick, you can paint the wall with a waterproofer designed for a shower, something like Redguard. If drywall you’d need the green drywall for wet areas, or could use hardy or cement board. Curbs can be made of wood, sealed and covered with tile or marble. In my bathroom remodel, I choose a Wedi Shower kit, because my old shower had a formed plastic base and I was worried about manufacturing a properly sloped shower pan. Is your current pan covered with tile, or just cement? Is tile you should be able to knock off the original tiles to put down new tiles. Depending on it’s configuration, might be possible to purchase a Wedi base by itself and the curbs. These must be covered by tile or marble.

No doubt the MR community encompasses expertise on nearly everything. But this is *Mac* Rumors, not, well, Subterranean Plumbing and Building Codes Rumors. :)

I'm curious as to why this is being asked here, and not The Tile Forum/Advice Board or the DIY Chatroom.

Of course, a really good place for this type of information is the planning department or building inspector.

i blocked the above haters
other posts in the /Community Discussion section deal with meditation another with quitting smoking so a home improvement post is great

i would use "Wonder Board" instead of drywall every where. in a shower wall its usually the first 18 - 30" that are susceptible to moisture damage
if your unsure how the shower will drain get a rectangular stainless steel drain, typically 4" x 18"
no big deal to cut the existing cement, homeDepot sells 4.5" $20 diamond blades fitting on the small size grinders and it will easily cut the cement. the blades last a long time.
old tech but get a sheet of heavy mill plastic cut to order to form your shower pan. The plastic is designed for shower pans. there is likely a youtube on how to set this up.
For a shower on a cement floor consider having a ~18" opening access to the shower with out a door. if the tile on cement floor gets wet it is dont care.
get a large ceiling fan to remove moisture

hae fun with the project

What does community forum mean to you? There are many such discussions here on a wide spectrum of topics, and how do you know the question has not been asked in DIY? I suggest you relax, or avoid such theads instead of critiquing someone’s motivation or the appropriateness of a post.

Nobody is hating here, unless the ones who sadly have lost their humor is projecting.
Happily we’re all responsible for our own minds and descions of it :)
