I have been using my mac which I bought new in 2017 (MacBookPro14,3) and only recently the left side and today the right side of the base popped out, I have attached photos, I checked online but can't see anyone else with this issue, how can I fix this, I would normally call Apple but am worried they won't help as it is past its guarantee. I keep the computer on a desk and the odd occasion move it to another location.

Your MacBook should be eligible for the keyboard repair program which I believe replaces the whole bottom case, including the battery. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Maybe call support and mention the baseplate but tell them you need the keyboard replaced. If it's a swollen battery you shouldn't use the MacBook until it's fixed.. and try to get it fixed asap.

You definitely need a battery replacement. Out of warranty the service costs $199+tax IIRC, and that price includes overnight shipping to and from your home as well as the delivery of a shipping box to your doorstep. I agree that you should stop using the computer immediately to reduce the chance of additional issues.

Additionally, if you happen to be having keyboard issues (which I assume you are), I agree you could request it be covered under this program.

Great as some keys on the keyboard have white marks on them and some letters are hard to read. I will inquire about this.

OP:

You have a swollen battery, and it can be a fire/explosion hazard.
You want to deal with this right away.

IF you have a brick-n-mortar Apple Store nearby...
Make an appt and take it to the genius bar.
They MIGHT be willing to do the repair for free on a 2017.
If not, the charge should be $199 (parts and labor).
This is A BARGAIN price, so pay it and be happy.

IF you DO NOT HAVE an Apple Store nearby...
Call Apple and talk to them.
DO NOT go to a "3rd-party service provider".
CALL APPLE DIRECTLY.
They should send you a prepaid shipping box and you can return it to one of their repair centers.
Again, they may off the repair free-of-charge, but if they want the $199, PAY IT.

Don't wait to get this done.
Take care of it as soon as you can.

Hi guys I thought I would update the thread on the progress, I took it to Apple as you guys said (wouldn't think about taking it to anyone else), they said they need to replace the top case with the keyboard, of course the battery and also the bottom case, all of which they didn't charge me for because the battery is considered a hazard so replace it free of charge, I was fortunate as they had one left in stock so was able to do the repair in one day only.

thanks again guys.

Wow! Sounds like the best possible outcome. Congrats!
