yes they are! i spent a small fortune on them

I tried a set of EMGs on my fretless Jazz Bass and thought the sound was absolutely horrid. I'm using the stock Fender PUs now, American Standard.

Although, I've tried the EMGs in a friend's fretted Jazz and liked the sound. They really cut through and are great for slap.
