I'm looking for a batch converter which can handle a long queue, preferably with different media types.

At present I'm using Handbrake and selecting each .srt file, but I have plenty of videos/tv shows which use other formats such as .sub .idx or .ass. I've been using Handbrakebatch for straight conversions but it can't help me with .srt files.

I don't mind paying for software as long as it's good, but I don't know what to look for. Every search I do with Google pulls up scripting solutions (which I know nothing about) and warnings that the files will be "rewritten video creating poor copies" and other information about containers and jargon that's above my head.

I'm writing here for two software suggestions, free or pay:

1) Some kind of converter that can handle converting NON .srt files (so I don't have to do the conversion) and .avi into .mp4

2) A software package that can handle batch conversion of .avi .mkv and .mp4 with subtitles and voice tracks.

I primarily watch this stuff on Apple TV 2 or from my computer (iMac) and I'm running Yosemite.

Any help or guidance you can give me will save my wrists, fingers, and eyes the drudgery of going file by file. 🙂
