    Dear All,
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find anything so my apologies if I'm revisiting an old chestnut.
I'm torn between buying a new imac and a new RMBP. My old stuff is around 7 years old now...an imac and an original first generation Air. The Air battery is totally buggered and even if you charge it then turn it off, the battery is drained the next day.
I know that if I go for the Macbook pro it will spend most of its time plugged in. So my questions are, how long does a battery last 'on average', and then when it eventually goes, do you have to send the laptop away for apple to change it, or can you take it into an apple store for them to do while you wait?
    Thanks,
    J

3-5 years. Depends on usage, really. My old mid-2009 MacBook Pro is still running on its original battery.

I believe battery replacement involves replacing the whole top case. I don't think it's a quick job.
