Hello,
since yesterday my MacBook Pro 2018 13-inch with Touch-Bar in basic Configuration has huge problems. I bought the device in July 2018.
I am lookin for help with this issues:
The MacBook doesn’t work anymore in Batterymode. The device can’t be turned on. The Keyboard, Display and fans are all off, nothing is happening. The device is only working when it is connected to it’s power supply. But here I have the next issue.
Only one single USB-C Port is working with the charger, it is the upper Port on the right side of the device. All other three Ports are not working with the charger, nothing is happening. Even the sound that comes normally when you connect the charger doesn’t appear.
When the charger is connected to the mentioned USB-C Port the MacBook is working fine, without any problems. In the moment I disconnect the charger from the USB-C Port the MacBook goes off immediately. The only way to power it up again, is to attach the charger again. I also checked with my USB-C to USB-A, HDMI and LAN Hub the other USB-C Ports and noticed this: The USB-C Hub and the MacBook are working fine when the Hub is connected to both USB-C Ports on the left side. When I connect it to the last free Port on the right side, the MacBook goes off again.
I checked and tried the following options:
- I run the diagnose on the boot-up with the Key ‚D‘: no errors found
- NVRAM/PRAM reset: didn’t helped, only thing I noticed that after the next boot up the screen brightness was set to 75%
- SMC reset: didn’t helped. But one thing I noticed: After the next boot up the MacBook was running in Battery mode. So I drained the battery out to zero, restarted the Mac and loaded the battery up to 100%. But this didn’t helped.
- In Systeminformation the Battery and the charger are all recognized. The battery status is ‚good‘ and it had so far about 60 charge cycles. The charger is also in a good state.
- I uninstalled Software I installed the last few days. For Anti-Virus, Sophos Home is running with latest Updates. The Hard Drive is encrypted by FileVault.
- Unfortunately I don’t have any Time Machine Backups, so I can’t restore the OS in an earlier state.
- When I boot into Safe mode nothing is different, same issue.
- The MacBook, charger and charger cable are all in good state. No fall damages or liquid in and outside the device.
I also noticed in Systeminformation two Thunderbolt BUS devices. Each with two ports. I think that that one BUS is for the Ports on the left side of the device and the other BUS for the ports on the right Side. Maybe someone can confirm this?
For me all of this sounds like a Hardware error. Maybe someone had this issue also and could help me?
Thank you very much for your help.
Kind regards
