Has anyone poked around the iPhone or iPod enough to find out if they store the current battery capacity (after the battery has been recalibrated) and/or the number of battery cycles so that they can be accessed by an app? It would be cool to have an app like CoconutBattery for the iPhone and iPod.

Well in order to have a app for the battery it'll have to be a software installed on the iphone... which would mean 3rd party App. But good news is ppl in IRC have been hacking and working hard to get it and so far they are really close... when they do hack the 3rd party app then we can get Apps for the iphone... Webbased would not work b/c it cannot dedicate the battery from the fone... or maybe it can wit the right codeing....

That's cool that they're planning to put real apps on the iPhone. I'm not even sure if what I suggested is feasible--I have poked around the iPod a little and couldn't find that type of information anywhere, but that doesn't mean it's not there.

I love CoconutBattery and think it would be a killer utility for the iPod and iPhone.
