Hi,

my MBP 2018 has a FileVault protected SSD. At the moment it is 24/connected to the Caldigit TS3+ dock, which charges it with over 80 Watts.
At the login screen for FileVault (right after the apple logo post start) it always shows less than 100% charge. Booted into the OS, it shows 100%.

At the moment I think, that the below 100% display is a bug, because it won't charge 3 percent in less than 30 seconds from startup to the os.
Anybody else notices this?

I have same issue, not sure what causes it. Probably battery information is not correctly transmitted before login, but I can't see why.

I suspect it is the opposite and that login screen is accurate and the OS is fudging the numbers.

If you use Coconut Battery or look in System Report you can see the real numbers that the OS is fudging and rounding up.

Check what it shows in system information for power, I'm guessing in login screen it's showing a 'true' charge, as, in common with most devices nowadays, 100% isn't actually truly 100% but something

100% is basically 'fudged' in all systems, because, I presume, people would feel unsatisfied if machine only ever said 100% for a moment before starting to count down, so they fudge it to be 3-5% at 100% really.

Yeah... MacBooks have always been like that and I agree it is likely so people don't get worried.

Not just macbooks really, consumer electronics in general always tend to have the 'first bar' last longer than rest.

I just came here to post this shower thought of mine too.
